SUSTAINABILITY

OUR ETHOS

For the past 15 years, we’ve remained committed to one guiding principle: to leave every garden we design more biodiverse than we found it—without ever compromising on our clients’ brief or the property’s aesthetic. This belief challenges a common misconception: that sustainability must come at the expense of beauty. We prove, time and again, that the two can not only coexist, but elevate one another.

We meet every client—private or professional—where they are on their journey. Whether sustainability is a deeply held value or simply a box to be ticked on a planning application, we welcome all with the same level of understanding and strategic care. There is no judgement—only a genuine desire to guide and support, and to deliver considered, market-aware design with environmental responsibility at its heart.

But for us, sustainability goes beyond planting choices. It informs how we operate as a studio and how we relate to the world around us.

We believe in flexible working—our team is encouraged to work in line with their natural rhythms, creativity, and life commitments. We prioritise inclusion, and Noemi is a passionate advocate for a more accessible and equitable garden design industry. Her voice has been featured in leading publications and events, where she regularly contributes to expert panels and speaks on the need for meaningful representation.

Mentoring the next generation is a key part of this vision. Noemi actively supports emerging designers and works to amplify underrepresented voices in the landscape profession.

We also believe in profit for purpose. Through strategic workflows and the smart use of technology, we maximise efficiency—so we can invest our time and resources where they matter most. One example is our current pro bono project: the design of a sensory garden for a state school in Farnham. The space is being created for the benefit of all students and staff, and especially for those with enhanced sensory needs.

At Studio Mercurelli, sustainability isn’t just a principle. It’s a practice—woven into every garden, every collaboration, and every choice we make.

SUSTAINABILITY IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.
